Everyday Beauty Essentials

Washington, DC, USA
Lately, I have been really into updating my makeup products. I don't think I've spent more than ten dollars on my previous foundations, but I couldn't seem to find one that just went well with my skin type. I finally went to Ulta with one of my friends who went to cosmetology school and she helped me find the right makeup for my skin type. I was able to bank some killer primer, foundation, an angled brush, setting spray, and mascara! If that wasn't enough though I then found this awesome eyebrow kit, a 4 piece brush set and rose gold eyeshadow palette at TJ Maxx. Then one more trip to Ulta with my mom and she kindly bought me some new concealer!  So I have been extremely happy with these products and thew new tricks I've learned to apply makeup. Now, I'm sharing those tips and tricks with you!

Something that I promised myself since I work from home a lot, my school is online and Omar is constantly going out of state for training, I tend to have an excessive amount of free time. Hence, why we got a dog. However , I realized it was kind of a blessing because now I can sit down and learn things that I've always wanted to learn. Things like coding, Photoshop tutorials, blog enhancements, photography, and yes.. how to properly apply makeup. Every time I would ask someone, "How did you learn to do makeup that well?" They would always reply, "YouTube." Like, okay that's not helpful. So, I had to take matters into my own hands. I searched the internet really hard and found this YouTuber who not only showed the tools she used to apply makeup but she explained it in such detail. Like, I understand that foundation goes on your face but what was I doing so wrong that other girls weren't? The YouTuber Stephanie Lange is amazing!  She talks about the different types of makeup that she uses and then shows you how to properly apply it.  It's not a fast forwarded movie with a good song playing.. she actually talks throughout the entire video.  I binge watched all her videos in the span of two days and it was worth it!  I also like Cosmo By Haley YouTube channel because she tries out so many different products so it's cool to see what products she tries out.

Now back to the basics: the makeup.  Like I said I went to Ulta & TJ Maxx to find these products and they're listed below as well.  What kind of makeup you get will forever depend on the type of skin you have.  My skin tends to be a bit on the oilier side and my pores are what's hard to cover up so I go with matte finished products.  Certain people like to put their makeup on with brushes while other's use their beauty blenders.  I, however, use both (will explain later on).  It really just depends on what works best for you at the end of the day.

Primer // I have heard so many amazing things about the Urban Decay Brightening and Tightening Complexion Primer that I knew that I just had to have it.  The primer at first feels very cool and then I can feel it kind of tightening my skin the way a facial mask does but then it goes back to feeling normal and it doesn't feel like I have anything at all.  It also doesn't crease when I put my makeup on and that was a huge problem solver for me.

Foundation // I purchased the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation in the color light beige (light skin with pink undertones.  I am obsessed with this foundation.  It gives completely good coverage and I forget that I'm wearing makeup at all.  My face usually feels so heavy and dirty at the end of the day but this stuff not only stays in place but it's super light and I feel like  I coule wear it for days without feeling gross.  Definitely worth the money you spend on it.

Concealer //  My mom generously bought me new concealer because mine was way too old and was breaking my foundation creating patchy areas of white space on my face.  I decided to go with the same brand as my foundation and got Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in the color SD 01.  It doesn't break apart and it is really smooth and creamy so I don't need too much when I use it.

Mascara // I finally got my hand on the Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara!  I got it in the color brown by accident but I love it!!  It makes my eyelashes look more natural than having clumps of black on my eyes.  It's so light and doesn't feel heavy on your eyelids.  This is a definite everyday must.

Setting Spray // The reviews on the Urban Decay All-Nighter Long-Lasting Setting Spray are hilarious!!  However, they're all positive.  Pairing this with the primer was something I defintely wanted to do and I'm so glad I did.  This setting spray really does hold your makeup in place all day long!

Eyebrows // I've never even touched my eyebrows besides getting them waxed every few months.  However, it's become a thing now and it looks good!  I wanted a starter kit because I still am all about the natural look and didn't want too much.  I found this Ellen Tracy Eyebrow Kit at TJ Maxx was exactly what I was looking for.  I needed a brush and brown pencil to simply fill my brows in just a little bit.  The tweezers and eyebrow gel were just a bonus!

Eyeshadow //  I don't collect eyeshadows like most girls because I ONLY use neutral colors.  I don't do crayz colors on my eyes because it's just not my thing.  Some people can rock it and I am not one of those people.  So I keep it simple and I hardly use eyeshadow anyways.  However, when I saw this W7 "In The Nude" Natural Nude Eyeshadow Palette at TJ Maxx I was in awe.  Rose gold is my favorite color at the moment and I can't believe I found eyeshadows like it.  The colors were so subtle and wonderful.  The pigment on the eyeshadows aren't the best, but you can build the color up.

Brushes // I needed an angled brush because I heard that this is best for apply foundation so I bought the Ulta Angled Foundation Brush and it's been so awesome to apply makeup all over my face.  The other brush I was looking for was called a buffing brush and at TJ Maxx I found the Master Of Beauty Essential 4 Piece Brush Set with a buffing brush, eyeshadow brush, foundation brush, and a contour brush.  The buffing brush and contour brush get the most use on a day to day basis, but it is nice to have the other two handy just incase.

To say the least I have defintely upped my makeup game and I actually am already saving some new products that I want to buy in the future.  What makeup tips do you have?  What brands of makeup do you use?  Let me know, I'm always down to learn new tips and tricks!
