There are some Christmas traditions that people over look sometimes. There's some really fun and childlike activities that will even put a smile on an adult's face. One of those activities is putting together a gingerbread house. I mean come on, it's putting together a sugar filled candy house? What's not to love? You get to play with candy!! I also know that I wasn't the only one who saw that Starbucks released their own version of a gingerbread house this year. I was too excited to see that cute little kit one winter morning when I was getting my coffee. That's when Mama Katz and I decided that this was a must-have item this holiday season.
This little set up was not as easy as it looks though. I'm not artistic whatsoever, but this thing came with instructions so I didn't think it woudl be so complicated. Nonetheless, this was so much fun to make. Of course mine doesn't look as ncie as the one on the box... but hey who cares? The most important part is that I had fun building it.
My grandma helped me put this monster together. Even though we totally messed up the icing and the gingerbread... it still came out decent.. I think, hah. My mom sat there and laughed at us the whole time! We listened to Christmas music and took breaks to help my mom with the Halupki. That's the whole point of a Christmas tradition though isn't it? To have fun, no matter how messy your gingerbread house turns out?
I love Christmas traditions, new and old. They make the holidays more fun and festive. Plus, when you do these traditions with family, you know you're bound to have a wonderful time!
Please note these pictures were taken before Oliver destroyed and ate half the house.
