I am so excited to keep this series going and so thankful to my photographer Danya who is able to bring my vision to life with these photographs. Just like a thrifted piece, you have to have some sort of vision and creativity to make a piece work. You'll [almost never] find a piece that is ready-to-wear, but if you use a little bit of imagination and a little love, you can repurpose clothing items into a piece you can wear with almost anything!
That was the case for this cheetah/leopard crop tank top. I was stunned to find a newer label in the thrift store. This shirt is from the Wild Fable line at Target and the tags were still on it. Here's the thing though, this tank was labeled a medium. I always shake my head in disbelief because this tank could barely pass as a small, let alone a size medium. That's why I love thrifting because I look in all the aisles (small, medium, large and even men's clothing racks) because the way things are sized in departments stores (like Target) are way off at times. This tank, even though it was new, had some flaws though. For one, it's extremely thin and as I said does not fit a traditional "medium." It also had a lot of loose strings that I had to cut and a knot by the straps that I had to get undone. After all is said and done though, it was a great $2.99 that I spent! There's no way I would have spent the original $14 for this shirt (as the original price tag said) because it was not worth that money. It was definitely worth the three dollars though, because this tank is perfect for those happy hour/going out nights. It can work in the summer time or in the fall when paired with a cardigan.
For this look, I felt it was more appropriate–given that it's summer–to pair it with a more edgier look. I felt serious "waiting for the taxi/uber" to pick us up from the bar type of look. Pairing the tank with my favorite black jeans and black booties and my gold 1993 necklace, both from Amazon. This outfit, as simple as it was, needed some love.
You shouldn't just buy a piece because it's "cheap" especially if it needs some work or cleaning up. However, you also shouldn't have to clean up an item too much (aka stains or holes). But a simple tank like this that can be used anytime of the year, in a multitude of ways for just $3 is a great deal.
xoxo, Michele
