When you do walk away feeling like that, it's usually because your mind is beaming with creativity. You might have a found a piece that you normally would never purchase, but because it was a great price your mind started racing with different outfits you could put together. You think "I could make this work," and you instantly want to go home and have a fashion show all for yourself. The thing is, you have to really think out of the box to do this. You can't just buy a bunch of stuff and assume it will mesh well with your closet. You have to have an exact outfit in mind or a way you're going to use this thrifted item. You also have to feel amazing while wearing this piece. Just because it was $4 doesn't mean you need to buy it. At the end of the day, if you don't love it, if you don't know what you're going to wear it with or wear it to, or you simply are buying it just because it's "a good deal," then put it back. Save that $4 for something more useful and not something you will turn around and donate in a few months.
Thrifting takes time, but if when you find that one item, it makes it totally worth it. I recently went thrifting and multiple one items that really got me excited to start this new series on my blog. I want to show you how to style these thrifted pieces. Give YOU some inspiration for your next thrifting trip. I thought I'd start with an easy item and something I know everyone is hunting down at thrift stores these days: a graphic t-shirt.
This graphic t-shirt I found is from the PacSun LA Hearts brand. It's a simple t-shirt, but it gave me some serious ACDC vibes. It simple says Los Angles Tour '98 (found on Poshmark here). It's not oversized by any means, it comes right to my waist (keep in mind I'm 4'11) and it's super soft! I knew that this would be a t-shirt that I would wear all the time, how could you not, it's simple, soft and is a total casual style. What I didn't expect is how I would style it with this adorable shift skirt (very Avril Lavigne Sk8r Grl). I was actually trying to style a different shirt, when my friend (and photographer) Danya suggested I pair something with her pink shift skirt. She was also doing a casual shirt and sneakers with a slit skirt look so basically yeah, I copied her. But it was totally worth it. This outfit came out cuter than I thought imaginable.
Yes, the graphic t-shirt gave a casual and comfortable look, the sneakers were comfy to walk in, but the skirt just amped up the outfit a little bit more. I paired it with my birth year gold plate necklace for a more edgy look and my TOMS sunglasses. I also wore this outfit for this book review blog post (click here to read). This outfit (and Danya's!) gave us such "city gal vibes." It just shows a refreshing way to dress up a plain graphic t-shirt!
