How I Prep For Vacation


This yearly beach trip has become a tradition in our family now and since we know what week it will fall on it's pretty easy to plan accordingly. But even for last minute trips, I always have the same type of "prep" for any trip I take. I am Type-A so I definitely have my bags packed days before, my boarding pass printed and my itinerary ready to go.


After the flights and hotels are booked the next thing I do is plan what I want to wear—obviously. I will figure out what style I'm going for and what I already have in my closet to make it work and what else I still need. I will typically do a shopping haul on Amazon or SheIn. I really like placing a large order of clothes, shoes, purses and jewelry on SheIn because its so cheap I don't mind if they get destroyed or lost on trips. Once everything arrives I will plan my outfits by what I'm doing for that day. And that's my packing strategy.

While I wait for my new clothes to arrive, I have to start a mental preparation. I don't like coming home to a long to do-list or a dirty home so I will make a to-do list of things I need to get done before I leave. These can typically include small things like "finish all laundry," "get car oil changed," "complete freelance assignment." Even though these things can be done when I get back, I don't want to have to worry about.

Once my to-do list is done, the self-care part begins! I have a serious self-care/beauty regimen that I follow before any big trip. This includes face mask, getting my hair touched up, exfoliating and self-tanning...whatever it is that will make me feel my best self when I step off that plane. 

The night before my trip I make sure that all my bags are packed and ready to go. If possible I even pack my big suitcases in the car so I don't have to worry about it in the morning. I have my airport/travel outfit set aside. I make sure all of my electronics are charged or charging overnight. And most importantly I get a good nights sleep. I may stretch do some yoga, take some CBD and then watch my favorite show to decompress. Whether it's a road trip or a flight, you're never fully comfortable when you travel so it's important to have a good nights sleep the night before.
